Tackle those knots

Do you struggle to keep your dog's coat knot free? Do you feel that your dog does not let you groom them ? We can help.

We often hear owners say that they are sorry their dog has knots in certain places, they just won't let them brush them, or touch specific areas.

Firstly, having a brush only will not keep a coat tangle free. A brush simply glides over the top coat (or guard hairs) and perhaps picks up some fluff (shedded coat). Always have a grooming kit which consists of combs and brushes. We can advise you on the tools and have grooming items available in the shop to purchase.

When combing your dog, always have one hand placed on the hair roots (close to the skin) and use the other hand to combe through the coat towards you. This stops pulling of the skin and any discomfort, so your dog should not object to this.

For specific guidance and demonstrations on better grooming techniques, including training tips, see our educational sessions.

Itchy skin?

Is your dog's scratching driving you crazy? Making endless visits to the vet and spending money on repeat prescriptions with no change to the situation? It is a merry go round for many owners. Many pet parents tell us about the repeat medications year in year out, but the scratching comes back.

Have you tried some natural alternatives? Anicura is a range of skin products for pets and we have seen some great results in several of our pad members after using them. One or two have incorporated a diet change (provided by a canine nutritionist) alongside using the products.

Actual results from Bellamy's Pad dogs include red rashes disappearing in two days; red hot inflamed areas where a dog has licked, calming down by the first day and disappearing after 4 days; scratching reducing or stopping.

Contact us or visit our shop for more information. We can only advise, given our experience with natural products and results, we do not provide medical consultations. Skin consultations are available on the Anicura website.

Reduced energy levels, slow movement or stiffness?

You may or may not be giving your dog supplements, such as joint supplement to help with arthritis or general stiffness, but if you feel that your dog is displaying signs of soreness or awkward movement, have you ever thought of clinical canine massage?

Like us, dogs can have knots build up in their muscles, so why not treat them to some clinical canine massage and see how it can benefit their body.

My dog is in her pensioner years. Although she is quite active for her age and has supplements to help counteract the ageing process, to keep her as healthy as possible for as long as possible, I saw a big improvement in her energy levels and mobility after a few sessions of clinical massage, so we are scheduling ongoing maintenance sessions.

Instead of resting or sleeping straight after her walks, she now asks to go out into the garden immediately after her walk each time and enjoys a game of ball or chasing birds from the fence. She is resting less and playing more or wanting to be active in some way, even if just an extra car journey. She is definitely much more 'on the go'.

Do consider clinical canine massage for your dog. Keep posted for details on educational events at Bellamy's Pad, including canine massage.
